December 13th is St. Lucia's Day and a relatively new celebration in our house. We borrowed it from the Scandinavian tradition. The oldest daughter secretly prepares breakfast for the family and then wakes them up for a candlelight meal of sweet bread and coffee. But I think our daughter's favorite part is dressing in the long white gown and wearing the holly wreath crown. I personally enjoy breakfast by candlelight and look forward to the time that she can truly do it all by herself and I don't have to sneak back into bed and pretend to be awakened! With all of these warm-up celebrations - and the potential for LOTS of snow this weekend -we are definitely getting in the mood for Christmas!
